So…you guys may or may not have noticed, but the serialized fiction projects haven’t been growing quite as fast as we all might have hoped. Don’t get me wrong. I love the stories and I’m pleased with how they’ve turned out, but for a variety of reasons (some of which are structural and some of which are narrative) they haven’t been able to attract a broader audience despite persistent community efforts and advertising.
It’s time for a change.
In the next couple of weeks I will be slowly shutting down MSF’s existing business and creative model and shifting to a more traditional model of self-publication. There will still be great stories, but they won’t be these stories. I’ve got some new projects lined up to replace them, but they will be released as individual novels and sold on Amazon as eBooks. MSF will probably also be re-branded as something that is more suggestive of novels than serialized works, so look for upcoming revisions to the website. Regrettably, this also means that the current serial projects will not be concluded. It would take months to finish up the stories and get them all released, and in the new production model I am going to be using, that same time frame could represent TWO or THREE fully-produced novels. I’m afraid I can’t concede to that kind of a delay when the alternative is so significant. The backlog of issues that are already complete will soon be released as a block, but they won’t get you all the way to the end of the story. At some point in the future they will probably be re-written and released as novels.
I’m not sure what I plan to do with regard to the Patreon page. It’s possible that I will be using it to distribute bonus content associated with the novels (though not the novels themselves), but because the novels will be released at more discrete increments, I will probably be switching the Patreon monthly-subscription plan to a piecework plan that only charges patrons when I produce and distribute something new. The rewards will also probably change slightly in structure and cost.
So, what does this all mean for you?
First, I will always be grateful for the support that you patrons have been providing over the course of the first stage of my creative career. As a thank-you, I will be distributing a free copy of the first novel to all of you patrons along with ALL of whatever rewards I develop to be released alongside it.
Second, the current subscription system for MSF on Patreon will be placed temporarily on pause until the restructure is complete and the first wave of the new model of content becomes available. This will give everybody time to decide if they want to subscribe to any of the new rewards. Just to be clear, continuing to subscribe will NOT get you access to the new novels as they are released. The Patreon page will be taking a back seat to the standard market and will become a source of bonus content only for fans who want to experience deeper aspects of the creation process.
Thank you again for all of your support over the last year. I’ll keep this page up to date as the new project prepares for launch.
